Dedication to a sustainable path
Avila Beach Hotel is pleased to announce its ongoing commitment to sustainability with the attainment of the fifth consecutive Travelife Gold certification. The esteemed international label for sustainable practices in the tourism industry has again been recognized for the hotel’s steadfast dedication. Initially honored with the Travelife Gold Award in 2013, the recent renewal follows a rigorous audit process. This recognition underscores the hotel’s continuous strides in minimizing environmental impact and upholding a robust social agenda. The successful completion of the comprehensive 163-point assessment reflects Avila’s relentless focus on sustainability.
Evolving Criteria for Sustainability
Travelife’s sustainability criteria are dynamic, evolving in tandem with the changing landscape of environmental responsibility. Biennial audits introduce new benchmarks for improvement, necessitating implementation within six months for the Gold label. As of mid-2023, the evaluation now includes carbon footprint tracking, encompassing greenhouse gas emissions voting from energy, water, and waste.
Embracing Community and Environment
As the longest-serving operational hotel in Curaçao (the hotel celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2024), Avila Beach Hotel’s sustainability certification is attributed to its social initiatives. The hotel takes pride in its local workforce recruitment and prioritization of locally sourced products. Active involvement in charitable endeavors, including furniture and school donations, further showcases the hotel’s commitment to the community and the environment. Avila Beach Hotel’s focus extends to ecological and marine preservation within Curaçao. Notable efforts encompass participation in Clean Ups, establishing a ‘pop-up’ coral nursery with Coral Restoration Foundation Curaçao (annually, about 1,500 to 2,500 coral fragments are added to the coral reefs on Curacao), and conscious water, electricity, and plastic usage reductions. Remarkably, the hotel has integrated 1246 solar panels, generating a significant portion of its energy needs. Guests contribute to meaningful change through initiatives such as the Pack for a Purpose project, empowering them to supply school essentials to local institutions. Additionally, Avila Beach Hotel contributes to global reforestation efforts by planting trees in Haiti for each direct booking made through its website. A partnership with Eden Reforestation Projects has led to the planting over 15,000 trees since 2019.
Sustainability is still a Global Trend.
The global trend of travelers valuing sustainability in their accommodation choices has grown significantly. What was once a niche has become essential to discerning travelers’ preferences. Avila Beach Hotel proudly aligned for many years with this then-niche and now trend, inviting guests to responsible travel that fosters positive impacts. At the Avila Beach Hotel, sustainability is an enduring philosophy, a heavy part of our vision, and a dedication that resonates throughout our journey.
