No Zika on ABC islands

WILLEMSTAD – On Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao, residents and tourists have very little risk of becoming infected with the Zika virus. At the end of October 2018, the World Health Organization (WHO) therefore announced that it would stop the classification scheme for countries where Zika is active, because no virus transmission was detected in the Caribbean for more than 12 months. This means that there is only a very small risk of contamination.
Just like dengue, the Zika virus is transmitted by the Asian tiger mosquito. Zika has many similarities with the symptoms of Dengue and Chikungunya, but the symptoms are milder and relatively short-lived. At the Avila Beach Hotel nonetheless, mosquito repellent is still sprayed preventively.
