WILLEMSTAD - During the Curaçao Inclusion Award and Benefit Concert on September 8, 2017 the Avila Beach Hotel has won the award for Most Accessible Hotel on Curacao. The hotel won after an extensive audit by the Alton Paas Foundation. Avila’s Belle Terrace Restaurant was also nominated as one of the most accessible restaurants on the island. Eventually, Nautilus restaurant won that award. IBIS Management was chosen as the Most Accessible Employer.
Award night
Together with partners CHATA and CTB, Fundashon Alton Paas focusses on Curaçao accessibility and participation. The award night and closing program were attended by three ministers. The evening ended with an exciting and inspiring show of the famous pianist Randal Corsen and his orchestra.
Accessibility Avila Beach Hotel
The entire Avila Beach Hotel, including its pool, restaurants and wellness area is completely wheelchair accessible. The hotel even has extra accessible hotel rooms in their Octagon wing (comparable to the Octagon Preferred room type). Robbin Vogels, General Manager (left) of the oldest operational hotel on Curacao was proud to receive the award from CHATA’s CEO & President Miles Mercera (right).
Alton Paas Foundation
The Alton Paas Foundation tries to increase awareness regarding accessibility on the island. This non-profit organization was founded on 7th of September 2012 by Alton Paas, after a life-changing car accident at age 19 that led to a spinal cord injury. He fights for a better accessible island in terms of facilities in buildings, streets and public transport. He strives for a Curacao, where persons with spinal cord injury can live a complete, successful, healthy life without any physical, mental or environmental limitations.
